'Almost half the population say they get six hours sleep a night or less. Experts blame developments such as electrification and the proliferation of entertainment. The number of hours the average person sleeps has declined over the past century. Some of this may be attributed to the electrification of homes – with more light'. Distant soprano: Daire Halpin.

All music composed, engineered, fiddled with endlessly and produced by Roger Doyle ℗ and © PRS/MCPS 2018/19.

Recorded at Rabbit And Costelloe's (the home studio). Design: Ciarán Byrne.

A video by Trish McAdam was specially commissioned for The New Triangle:

[from an interview by the Contemporary Music Centre in 2019]
It seemed to be in the news all the time about how little sleep we're all getting, and it's really affecting our lives, and part of the reason people are not sleeping is that there's light at night-time. The lights are on and the computers are on, and your mobile phone is on and everything's on. And the night has been electrified and I thought, 'That's a great title'.
