Four Sketches - Combat

from Orchestral and Radiophonic Music by Roger Doyle

/

about

Composed in 1969 whilst still a 19 year old student at the Royal Irtish Academy Of Music, studying composition with A.J. Potter. I had just been awarded the Junior Composition Scholarship and decided to stretch my wings by writing a piece for orchestra. Dr. Potter said: "Well go ahead!"
It took five months to compose and was performed in 1971 by the Dublin Symphony Orchestra (because it won second prize in its competition for composers) and the RTÉ Symphony Orchestra the following year. Conducted by Colin Block on both occasions.
This recording was made by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra in January 2006 at the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Conducted by Gavin Maloney.
